The Genesis Center

Building on a long history of ministry serving neighbors, including a food pantry and soup kitchen, the church’s ministry grew in a big way in 2012. With needs increasing, a new building opened the way to truly be a community center – right around the corner from the church.

From a condemned, boarded-up building that once was a popular bar, emerged a vibrant center with twice-weekly community meals, a weekly food pantry, children’s clothing closet, health and wellness programs, a variety of support groups, art and craft classes, emergency assistance, and more. Most of all, it is a gathering place for loving community, where more than 400 families each month receive practical support with dignity and respect.

Initial renovation of the center was funded with a major grant from the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation. The foundation has provided additional support, along with the parish, diocese, area churches, local non-profits and businesses, community groups, and neighbors.
